UPLIFTING COMMUNITIES TALK SHOW LOUISIANA WITH HOST TOMMY COLE

PROGRAMS

March 11, 2017

Gary Anthony Sturgis is a New Orleans born actor/writer/director best-known for his portrayal of the villain in two of Tyler Perry's biggest hit films, "Diary of A Mad Black Woman" (as Jamison Jackson) and "Daddy's Little Girls" (as Joseph Woods). He also co-starred opposite Terrence Howard in "Pride", as the charming yet sinister pimp/drug dealer Franklin Washington. Recently, he has stepped out the role of bad guy to co-star in the comedy "Chicago Pulaski Jones" with Kel Mitchell and Cedric the Entertainer. Also a professional voice artist, Sturgis has voiced network promos for UPN, CBS, PBS and ABC, cartoons and video games (Static Shock, Batman, Scooby Doo and The Cyber Chase, Fairly Odd Parents, Spiderman) and is heard on countless commercials for radio and television. His raspy bass-baritone voice that the women find hard to resist has even been heard on national movie trailers and promotions for; "Bones", "Two Can Play That Game", "The Others", "The Brothers" and "The Wood" to name a select few. In addition, he is also the voice for the History Channel's "K-9 Cops". For another surprise, Gary also produces and writes rap music and has a successful recording under the moniker Illuminati called Fahrenheit, which is still available on iTunes. As a writer/producer, Gary is producing some of his own feature-length screenplays (he has written more than ten), and has packaged his works into three and four picture deals and commenced to shopping them around town for financing and distribution. We have only scratched the surface of this multi-faceted creative soul. Since Sturgis had been writing for years, the next natural progression was to direct. After directing "Lend A Hand", a 90-second short film for the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), Gary realized that directing was yet another feather he could stick in his talented cap. He also exercises his writing chops daily as a regular staff writer on the number-one urban comedy in the history of cable television, "House of Payne" and the latest Tyler Perry series, "Meet The Browns", on which he also plays a recurring character. Gary will be directing two of his own films, a comedy, "The Inheritance" and an action drama, "Le Bon Temps Rouler", in the near future as the first two films from his production company, GEMFilmworks. The multi-hyphenated talent is already respected as an actor and plans to make an even bigger mark in the entertainment business while he perpetually broadens his horizons.

Joe Sam is an original Cajun, a native of Opelousas LA, which is right in Lafayette’s backyard. Acadiana has been Joe's home away from home for many years and has a special place in his heart. Joe attended McNesse State University in Lake Charles, LA before transferring to Southern University A&M college in Baton Rouge, LA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications. Joe’s initial exposure to the world of TV news was as a News Content Specialist with a station in the Baton Rouge area. Joe’s success in his course of study coupled with his infectious personality landed him a position as the Radio Personality at Southern University and also an internship at Fox8 New Orleans. Subsequently, he accepted a position in Lafayette, LA as a Newscast Editor where Joe learned the art of creating artistic visuals and eye-catching graphics. After working as a reporter with a local news station for 6 months, it was evident that Joe was a natural story-teller. It only took a short time in front of the camera before Joe moved to Florida to work as the Morning Anchor/Reporter for ABC27.

Joe’s love for his community catapulted his decision to return home to become the Community Development Coordinator for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). This decision was provoked by the tragic death of his two-year old nephew in 2011 who was a victim of child abuse. Near and dear to his heart, Joe was determined to use whatever celebrity he had to advocate for abused and neglected foster children to help spread awareness about child abuse. and to pay tribute to his deceased loved one. Joe’s passion for storytelling which he often expresses through poetry combined with his love for this community has equipped him to be a solid voice for Acadiana. He says serving as the Morning Anchor for KLAF and being able to share the stories that impact the community he has called home all of his life is a dream come true and he is honored to wake up every morning with the Cajuns of Acadiana. Joe is also a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity incorporated, NAACP, and National Society of Leadership and Success.

Royal Divine Services LLC was founded by Lakesha N. Logan in Oct 2016.  Born and raised in New Orleans, LA, her passion has always been to serve humbly and in love. Lakesha possesses an eye for detail, leadership, and a  deep, abiding love for event planning.  She finds joy in  blessing others by planning an unforgettable event and making their day a special one.  Lakesha also possesses a Bachelors of Science Degree in Technical Management/Operations Management as well as an International Event and Wedding Planning Professional License.

But this life did not come easy.  Lakesha was raised in a single parent home and is the oldest of 3 brothers, growing up with one of them.  With a strong church upbringing and being raised by a strong woman whom always worked numerous jobs to make ends meet, at an early age, Lakesha found it easy to manage a household and help take care of her sibling.  Growing up in a time where people didn't express or share their needs or struggles with other people, Lakesha observed her mother struggle with hard times, learning valuable lessons along the way.  By observing those hardships, Lakesha knew she had to find a way to do more to relieve her mother of stress.  At the age of 14, her first job was a summer job at the Treme Center summer camp.  At this point she knew the value of working and being self sufficient and independent.  This was the beginning of her entrepreneurial mindset and planning techniques.  Roaming from bus to street car to attend school, work and other activities,  Lakesha found it quite easy to adjust.  With her sibling looking up to her, Lakesha had an obligation to be a good role model and help with his needs.  This was motivation for her.  She knew that if she worked hard enough, she could achieve anything she set her mind to.  Working her way throughout high-school to help with some of the expenses, Lakesha had no intentions of slowing down, and was more motivated than ever.

Even those who chose to give their children to adoption chose to be responsible and do what's best, so they need to be uplifted not torn down or judged.

Allow me to reintroduce you all to the one and only, the man who moves your soul with his excellent, sexy, inviting, motivating voice!!
MR. Hank Stewart Poet II!

Hank, who released his first book titled, "The Answer" in 1993.
"The Answer", a collection of poetry, which expressed the issues of love, unity and religion, uniquely introduced Stewart as a conscious writer among a culture of literary enthusiast. Shortly thereafter, Hank followed up his first work with a second book fittingly titled, "Second Chance" which was written to reveal the Savior to lost souls and to rejuvenate the Christian experience. In 1996, Hank wrote his third book, "Be Still and Know..." a religiously conscious collection of works focusing on the power of prayer and the importance of spiritual guidance. Hank collaborated with Kendra Norman-Bellamy to craft the nationally published Three Fifty-Seven A.M. novel in 2007, which is loosely based on the popular romantic poem 357. It is a dramatic and inspirational tale of love, betrayal, forgiveness and power of prayer.
Hank Stewart's poetry has awarded him many opportunities including working on programs with prominent officials such as former Vice President, Al Gore and contributing a piece honoring the mother of the civil rights movement, Rosa Parks with a special poetry dedication. Mr. Stewart has recited his works for Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Atlanta Former Mayor Shirley Franklin, late Rev. Hosea Williams and Dr. Joseph E. Lowery. He also performed for Ruby Dee, late Johnny Cochran, Harry Belafonte, Xernona Clayton and Ambassador Andrew Young just to name a few.
Hank has performed at the Trumpet Awards and Essence Music Festival. He has written and performed commercials for the McDonald Corporation called "365 BLACK". He has also written and performed African American poetic rendition commercials for Fox 5 Atlanta which resulted in the winning of the 2007 Emmy, Promax and Gabby awards. Hank is the founder of "Walk Against the Call" which is an awareness walk to prevent breast cancer raising more than $100,000. He is also the founder of the Annual White Linen Affair, Hot Chocolate, Love Jones Sunday's and Five Men on a Stool. Hank's strong presence in the community afforded him the opportunity to register 15,000 voters.
Always looking to advance his career to the next level, Stewart considers his plight as an author to inspire people to achieve maximum success and to touch as many lives as possible with a message of spirituality, love and history

Naturally, as a young girl living out on the streets, she endured many dangerous and disheartening situations. This woman has conquered homelessness, dangerous stalkers, abusive men, vicious "friends", cruel church goers, cold hearted family, self-doubt, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and more. No matter what impossible obstacles she faced she never lost faith in her God, Yahweh (The God of Abraham). John L. Brown was born in Lawtell, Louisiana in 1950 and raised in Lake Charles La. He was taken in by his maternal grandmother after his mother died when he was a baby. The year 1963 became pivotal for Brown as he recalled watching John F. Kennedy’s televised speech in which the President challenged the nation “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country” It was after that moment that John began volunteering in the classroom after school, cleaning, serving food in the lunchroom. He recalls being chaplain for his homeroom class. Brown left high school and joined the Marine Corp in 1968, at the height of the Vietnam War. While he was serving in Vietnam he was exposed to Agent Orange and saw lots of combat and was heavily decorated for his service. His honors included a purple heart. After the service John moved out west, living in Utah, Denver and Texas. Self taught he took up the trades of welding, ship fitting and carpentry to earn a living. His veteran’s benefits allowed him to eventually return to school, where he earned an associate’s degree with emphasis on Behavioral Science from Merritt College in Oakland, California. In 1983 he began a career with the United States Postal service, retiring after 17 years. The realities of struggle and survival had become the fabric of John’s life during his foster years.
